The Synology RackStation RS4021xs+ is a 16-bay 3U enterprise NAS with an Intel Xeon eight-core processor, 16GB ECC memory, dual 10GbE networking, redundant power and expansion support for up to 40 drives.
Product Description
The Synology RS4021xs+ is designed for enterprise storage, business backup, virtualisation, collaboration, surveillance and other data-intensive workloads.
It features an Intel Xeon D-1541 eight-core processor, 16GB DDR4 ECC memory expandable to 64GB and sixteen hot-swappable SATA drive bays.
Two built-in 10GbE ports and four 1GbE ports provide high-speed connectivity and network redundancy. Two PCIe Gen3 expansion slots support selected Synology network cards and M.2 NVMe SSD adapter cards.
Storage capacity can be expanded to 40 drives with two optional RX1217 or RX1217RP Expansion Units. Redundant power supplies and replaceable system fans help support service continuity.
Storage drives, memory upgrades, expansion units, PCIe cards, M.2 SSDs and rack rails are not included.

Compatibility Note
Confirm that all storage drives, memory modules, expansion units, PCIe cards and rack accessories are compatible with the Synology RS4021xs+ before ordering.
The RS4021xs+ supports up to two Synology RX1217 or RX1217RP Expansion Units, increasing the total number of supported drive bays from sixteen to forty.
Memory can be expanded with compatible Synology D4EC-2666-16G modules. All installed memory modules should be identical and use the same model number.
The PCIe slots support selected Synology network cards, M.2 SSD adapter cards and combined network and M.2 adapters.
The RS4021xs+ does not include built-in M.2 slots. NVMe SSD caching requires a compatible Synology adapter card and supported M.2 SSDs.
This model supports RAID F1 but does not support Synology Hybrid RAID.
Volumes larger than 108TB require additional memory and a supported storage configuration. A 1PB volume requires 64GB memory and RAID 6.
Synology only guarantees full functionality, reliability and performance with drives listed as compatible for this model.
Installation in a compatible 4-post rack requires an optional Synology RKS-02 sliding rail kit.
Available capacity will be reduced by RAID, formatting, system partitions and file-system data. RAID does not replace an independent backup.
