The Synology RX1223RP is a 12-bay 2U rackmount expansion unit with hot-swappable SATA drive bays, Mini-SAS HD connectivity, redundant power supplies and online storage expansion through Synology DSM.
Product Description
The Synology RX1223RP provides additional storage capacity for compatible Synology RackStation and SA-series systems.
Its 12 hot-swappable drive bays support compatible 3.5-inch SATA hard drives and 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drives.
The expansion unit connects to a compatible host system through Mini-SAS HD and is managed through Synology DiskStation Manager. Existing volumes can be expanded, or additional storage pools and volumes can be created without interrupting supported services.
Redundant power supplies and replaceable system fans help maintain service availability in business environments.
Storage drives and the optional rack rail kit are not included.

Compatibility Note
The RX1223RP is a storage expansion unit and cannot operate as a standalone NAS.
Confirm compatibility with the intended Synology host system before ordering. Synology currently lists the SA6400, RS2423RP+II, RS2423RP+ and RS2423+ as supported models.
The expansion unit connects to its host using the included Mini-SAS HD cable. The USB, eSATA and other expansion connections used by older Synology expansion units are not interchangeable with Mini-SAS HD.
Synology recommends creating storage volumes within the same NAS or expansion unit for better performance instead of spanning one volume across separate devices.
Installation in a compatible 4-post 19-inch rack requires an optional Synology RKS-02 sliding rail kit.
Available storage capacity will be lower than the combined manufacturer-rated drive capacity because of RAID, formatting, system partitions and file-system data.
