The Synology DiskStation DS225+ is a compact 2-bay desktop NAS with an Intel quad-core processor, 2GB DDR4 memory, 2.5GbE connectivity, expandable memory and flexible storage for home offices and small teams.

Product Description

The Synology DiskStation DS225+ is a compact 2-bay network attached storage system designed for centralised file storage, backup, collaboration, photo management and surveillance.

It is powered by an Intel Celeron J4125 quad-core processor with a 2.0GHz base frequency and turbo speeds of up to 2.7GHz.

The system includes 2GB of DDR4 non-ECC memory. An available memory slot supports the optional Synology D4NS01-4G module, increasing the total memory capacity to 6GB.

Two hot-swappable drive bays support compatible 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drives.

Supported storage configurations include Synology Hybrid RAID, Basic, JBOD, RAID 0 and RAID 1. Synology Hybrid RAID or RAID 1 can provide one-drive fault tolerance when two suitable drives are installed.

The DS225+ includes one 2.5GbE network port and one Gigabit Ethernet port. The 2.5GbE connection supports faster file transfers when used with compatible network equipment.

Synology lists sequential performance of up to approximately 282MB/s read and 217MB/s write under its specified test conditions.

Synology DiskStation Manager provides browser-based tools for managing storage, user accounts, shared folders, backups and compatible applications.

Synology Drive supports private-cloud file access, synchronisation, sharing and computer backup. Synology Photos provides private photo and video organisation with supported mobile backup and sharing features.

Hyper Backup can protect selected data and system settings to compatible external drives, another Synology system, supported servers or selected cloud destinations.

Surveillance Station includes two default device licences and supports up to 25 compatible IP cameras, depending on the recording configuration and other active workloads.

The DS225+ is supplied without storage drives or the optional memory upgrade.

Compatibility Note

Please confirm that all storage drives and memory modules are officially compatible with the Synology DS225+ before ordering.

The DS225+ supports:

• Up to two compatible 3.5-inch SATA hard drives
• Up to two compatible 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drives
• One optional Synology D4NS01-4G memory module

Installing the D4NS01-4G increases the total system memory from 2GB to 6GB.

The DS225+ does not include M.2 NVMe slots, PCIe expansion or support for Synology expansion units.

The drive bays support hot-swapping when permitted by the current RAID and storage-pool condition.

Synology Hybrid RAID and RAID 1 require two suitable drives to provide one-drive fault tolerance.

The available storage capacity will be lower than the total manufacturer-rated drive capacity because of RAID, formatting, system partitions and file-system data.

Actual performance depends on the installed drives, RAID configuration, network equipment, client hardware, memory and active applications.

RAID helps protect against selected drive failures but does not replace an independent backup.
