The Synology M2D18 is a dual-slot PCIe adapter card supporting compatible M.2 NVMe and SATA SSDs for read/write caching in selected Synology NAS systems.
Product Description
The Synology M2D18 is designed to improve random I/O performance and reduce latency in compatible Synology NAS systems.
Two M.2 M-key slots support selected NVMe and SATA SSDs in 2280, 2260 and 2242 form factors, depending on the connected NAS model.
Using dedicated M.2 SSDs for caching allows the main drive bays to remain available for primary data storage. Included heatsinks help manage SSD temperatures during demanding workloads.
M.2 SSDs are not included.

Compatibility Note
Confirm that the Synology NAS model, DSM version and intended M.2 SSDs are compatible with the M2D18 before ordering.
Supported SSD interfaces vary by NAS model. Some compatible systems support both NVMe and SATA SSDs, while others support SATA SSDs only.
Synology lists NVMe and SATA support for selected models including:
- RS822RP+ and RS822+
- RS1221RP+ and RS1221+
- RS820RP+ and RS820+
- DS2419+II, DS2419+ and DS1819+
- RS2818RP+, RS2418RP+ and RS2418+
- DS3018xs and DS1618+
Selected older compatible systems support M.2 SATA SSDs only.
The RS822RP+, RS822+, RS1221RP+ and RS1221+ require DSM 7.2-64551 or later before installing the M2D18.
Supported SSD models, interfaces and capacities differ between NAS systems. Check Synology’s current compatibility list before purchasing SSDs.
The included heatsinks are designed for M.2 2280 SSDs. Shut down the NAS and disconnect its cables before installing or removing the adapter card or SSDs.
